Add some personality to your straw hat or fedora with a large-eyed needle and some colourful embroidery thread. With a bit of artistic license you'll certainly shine in sunny Kenya!

1. Decide on several embroidery thread colours.DO NOT TIE A KNOT IN THE END. Having cut one length of thread, fold it in half and thread the open ends through the eye of your needle (make sure you do not pull the loop at the other end of the cotton through). Make a stitch in the hat to begin your patern; but, before pulling the floss tight, thread your needle through the loop. This is works as a better, more discreet knot.

2.Continue stitching a patern around your hat using various colours of thread, until you feel it's enough.

3. I pinned mine up with small porcupine quills so I could see! I also found some feathers to decorate it a little bit more. Obviously, that's optional.

WARNING: KEEP CHECKING THAT THE HAT STILL FITS AS YOU SEW! THE STITCHING CAN TIGHTEN IT. IT MAY BE WISE TO BUY A HAT THAT IS TOO BIG IN THE FIRST PLACE.
